Förderverein Bundesstiftung Baukultur e.V.

Development Association of the Federal Foundation for Baukultur (building-culture)

The Bundesstiftung Baukultur (Federal Foundation for Baukultur / building-culture) and its Förderverein (Development Association of the Federal Foundation for Baukultur, hereafter: Förderverein Baukultur) seek to stimulate a nationwide debate on the quality of our built environment. Their work is aimed both at professional circles and the general public and seeks to raise the awareness of the value and potential of the built environment and to encourage active involvement.

At the end of 2006 the Bundesstiftung was established by public law as an independent institution at federal level. The development of the foundation was a joint initiative by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and most of the professional associations involved in planning and construction together with the Förderverein Baukultur. The Bundesstiftung started working at the beginning of 2008.

The Förderverein Baukultur, a non-profit membership-organisation, provides support for the Bundesstiftung. It sustains a nationwide network consisting of stakeholders and target groups - involving professional associations, public authorities, initiatives and organisations, experts and planners in the planning and building sector as well as citizens.

Core activities of the Bundesstiftung and its Förderverein Baukultur involve: providing interdisciplinary networks for exchange of information and experiences, drawing the public’s attention to interesting initiatives, stimulating individual demand for a high quality built environment, advising municipalities and the federal government on developing general conditions for a high quality built environment, supporting activities on regional and local level, fostering interdisciplinary discourse and activities and mediating between conflicting interests.

The Förderverein's role in EnSURE

During the course of the EnSURE project, the Förderverein promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences on the energy efficient renewal of buildings and urban quarters on national and transnational level. It strives to foster an integrated and holistic approach to sustainable development, to encourage debate on controversial issues including design-qualities. The Förderverein aims to generate multiplier effects as well as to establish closer contacts between experts and organisations dedicated to sustainable development and design.

A particular focus lies on identifying and gathering examples of best practice and innovation in order to disseminate “state-of-the-art”-knowledge as well as inspirational projects and initiatives.
